I am trying to connect scan to email, but it is a password protected feature. I do not know the password, but also can not figure out how to reset it. This is a home office printer, I am the main user.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Could you share the screen where it's asking for the password? 
  • Are you using HP Smart App?

Interestingly, I created an account to add a message to this HP support page, and with that account I can log in and now scan. It is no longer asking for an admin user account and password. So the issue is resolved.

I can not now replicate the former issue, but it stated that I could not connect scanning to e-mail or computer as it was locked with an admin account.
