Hi @travel-ers
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It sounds like your HP Smart 6000 series scanner isn't connecting properly to your Surface Pro-3.
Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:
Check for Updated Drivers:
- Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your printer/scanner model. Ensure they are compatible with your Surface Pro-3 and Windows version.
Use the HP Smart App:
- Download the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store. This app is designed to work seamlessly with HP printers and scanners. Follow the setup instructions to connect your scanner.
Enable Scanner in Settings:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners on your Surface Pro-3.
- Select your HP Smart 6000 series printer and ensure the scanner functionality is enabled.
Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from the HP Support page. This tool can automatically diagnose and fix scanning issues.
Check Network Connection:
- Ensure your printer/scanner is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Surface Pro-3. Verify the IP address and try reconnecting the scanner.
Reset Printer Settings:
- Reset the printer/scanner to factory defaults and reconfigure it using the HP Smart app.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
