Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

In setting up the scan to network folder I get an error message that communication cannot be established.  The print function works fine.  The ethernet cable has a green light at the printer connection but a red light at the router connection.  I have changed out the ethernet cables, uninstalled the printer software & drivers, downloaded the latest version of software from HP and installed it without a problem, shut down and restarted both the routher and the scanner with no success.  This problem just started recently after a problem with computer occurred.  I can scan to a USB drive without a problem.

I can offer the following...

Consider:

  • When mapping the Shared network folder on the computer, use the IP address (as opposed to using the server name).

Map_Network_Drive_2AMap_Network_Drive_2A

NOTE:  No idea whether Windows 7 looks like the example...

  • Check the router for firmware updates - if necessary, update the firmware.

  • Check to make sure the IP address assigned on the router is the IP address that the printer thinks it is using.

Solutions:

 Solve wired network problems

  • If the router firmware did just update and the issue started right after, the firmware update (rare, possible) might be bad, in error, have a problem.

  • Try a different port on the router.  Ports can "go bad" - rare, but it can happen.  There is no software fix for a bad router port.

  • Consider resetting the printer power protection (unlikely to work for this kind of issue).

  1. Make sure the printer is plugged into a functioning wall outlet supplying the proper voltage (110V or 220V).
  2. If you are using a surge protector, extension cable, or power strip, plug the printer directly into the wall outlet.
  3. Press the power button to turn on the printer.
  4. If the issue persists, unplug the printer and wait 15 minutes.
  5. After 15 minutes, plug the printer back in and press the power button.

Not sure whether the "doctor" is able to help with Laser printer issues... might be worth a look:
