@Joeynumbers, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 9019 printer is not recognizing your Chromebook, there might be an issue with the connection settings. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot the issue:

Using Wi-Fi Direct to Connect Your Printer and Chromebook

  • Find the Wi-Fi Direct Name and Password:
    • Use the HP Smart app: Open the app, select your printer, and navigate to "Advanced Settings" to view the printer Embedded Web Server (EWS). Check the Network or Networking tab for the Wi-Fi Direct details.
    • If your printer has a touchscreen control panel, tap the Wi-Fi Direct icon to view the name and password directly.
    • If there is no touchscreen, press the Information button or hold the Wi-Fi Direct button to print an Information Report.
  • Connect Your Devices:
    • Ensure your printer has paper loaded and is turned on.
    • On your Chromebook, click the Wi-Fi icon and select your printer from the list, using the name starting with "DIRECT".
    • Enter the Wi-Fi Direct password when prompted and click Connect.

Selecting Wi-Fi Direct printer

  • Add the Printer:
    • Go to the main settings menu on your Chromebook > Settings > Advanced.
    • Under Printing, add your printer by selecting it from the available printers and clicking Add.

Additional Tips

  • Ensure Settings Are Correct: If the printer doesn’t connect, check whether Wi-Fi Direct is turned on in your printer’s settings.
  • Proximity: Ensure both devices are close together to avoid weak signal issues.
  • Restart Devices: Restart both the Chromebook and printer to clear any potential error states.
  • Disconnect Other Connections: Remove any Ethernet or USB cables from the printer, as these can hinder the Wi-Fi Direct connection.

If further assistance is required, you can visit the HP support page for printer setup using Wi-Fi Direct.

I hope this helps.
