Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP Envy 5660 printer/scanner which previously communicated via USB port with my desk top computer for scanning function as well as printer information no longer does so.  Clicking on the printer icon now only shows an option for adding another device or additional software.  I have been able to find no solution to this, and would appreciate any advice.  Thanks!!

Hi @ced6,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The HP Envy 5660 is an all-in-one printer that includes scanning functionality. To use the scanning function of this printer and communicate with your computer, you'll typically need to follow these steps.

Setup: Make sure your HP Envy 5660 printer is set up correctly and connected to your computer. Ensure that it's powered on and connected to the same network as your computer if it's a wireless printer.

Install HP Software: If you haven't already, you may need to install the HP software and drivers for your printer on your computer. You can usually find these on the HP website or on the installation CD that came with the printer. Follow the installation instructions carefully.

Place Document: Open the scanner lid and place the document or image you want to scan face down on the scanner glass.

Use the Printer's Control Panel:

  • On the printer's control panel, locate the scanning function or option. This might be labeled as "Scan," "Scan to Computer," or something similar.
  • Select the computer you want to send the scanned document to if there are multiple computers on the network.

Configure Scanning Settings:

  • You may have the option to adjust scanning settings such as scan resolution, color mode, and file format. These settings can typically be configured on the printer's control panel or through the HP scanning software on your computer.

Start Scanning: Once you've configured the settings, press the "Start" or "Scan" button on the printer's control panel. The printer will scan the document and send it to your computer.

Retrieve Scanned Document: The scanned document will be saved on your computer in a location specified during the scanning process. Usually, it's saved in your "Documents" folder or a folder created by the HP scanning software.

View/Edit the Scanned Document: Open the scanned document using your preferred software (e.g., Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, or an image editing program) to view or make any necessary edits.

Additionally, make sure your printer and computer are connected to the same network and that any firewall or security software on your computer is not blocking communication with the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
