HP OfficeJet Pro 9018e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I called yesterday with a problem trying to scan to my computer. I was told that a tech rep would call me back in a few minutes. A man with an Indian accent who said he was "Jack Woods" at TechMacWin ([personal info removed]) called back and he proceeded to log into my computer and tell me that there was nothing wrong with my HP printer (OJP 9018e), the problem was all the malware on my computer (Microsoft Surface)! He said that even though I regularly used the free AVG viruscan, the free Malwarebytes and the free CC Cleaner, they  were not able to prevent or find the malware because they were free programs. He said you get what you pay for and then offered to fix my computer for the "cheap" price of $200. I told him I'd rather spend the money towards a new computer since mine was already 6 years old, and I could take it in to the Geek Squad and have it fixed for less. He said if he fixed it I would be able to use it another 6 years and they would not be able to fix it because they weren't "allowed" to reinstall the software. By this point I was feeling high pressured and wondered if this was a scam. I told him I needed to think about it and I'd get back to him.

When I hung up with him I decided I decided to try to fix it myself. I deleted the HP Smart program and re-installed it, and lo and behold my computer and printer are working perfectly!! My advice to anyone with printer problems who is referred to TechMacWin by HP Support to find someone else to fix their problem and save some money. I will certainly think twice before purchasing another HP product if this is the support they give.
