@tosyn1, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

The error code E2 on your HP DeskJet 2720 All-in-One Printer indicates a paper mismatch error, typically occurring when the paper size selected for the copy job does not match the size of paper loaded in the printer. Here are steps to resolve this issue:

Resolving Paper Mismatch Error (E2) for Copying

Check the Loaded Paper

  • Ensure the paper loaded in the input tray matches the size you are selecting for the copy job.
  • For A4 size, ensure the paper is A4 (210 x 297 mm) and is properly aligned within the guides.

Update Copy Settings

  • From the control panel or printer software, verify the settings for paper size when initiating a copy job.
  • Ensure the paper size selected in the copy settings matches the paper in the input tray.

Align Paper Guides

  • Adjust the paper-width guides in the tray to fit snugly against the edges of the paper. Ensure they do not bend or cause the paper to shift, which can cause errors.

Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer, unplug the power cord, and wait for about 30 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.

Check Firmware and Software Updates

  • Ensure your printer's firmware and drivers are up to date. You can check for updates through the HP Smart app or HP website.

Checking Printer Settings

When copying:

Initiate the Copy Job

  • Load the document you wish to copy on the scanner glass.

Select Paper Size

  • From the printer’s control panel or the HP Smart app, ensure you select the correct paper size (A4) for the copy job.

Confirm and Start Copying

  • Confirm the settings and start the copy job.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
