Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

I have owned my HP printer a couple of years and have been happy. However, I used to do double sided scanning, and the HP Smart app does not give me that option. Scanning seems limited since the options are very basic and I know my scanner does more, Is there some way double sided scanning can be added to Smart app?

Hi @mackrae,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I know it’s frustrating when you’ve been using double‑sided (duplex) scanning for years and suddenly the HP Smart app no longer shows the option. You’re not imagining it, and you’re definitely not doing anything wrong. Let’s walk through what’s happening and what your options are.

How to get your double‑sided scanning back

Step 1: Install HP Full Feature Software

  1. Go to HP Support → Drivers for your exact printer model
  2. Download the Full Feature Software (not just HP Smart)
  3. Install it completely
  4. Open the program called HP Scan

This is the older, more advanced scanning software HP still supports.

Step 2: Enable Two‑Sided Scanning in HP Scan

Inside HP Scan:

  1. Click More or Advanced Settings
  2. Look for Two‑Sided / Duplex
  3. Select it
  4. Start scanning

If your printer has a duplex ADF, it will scan both sides automatically.
If your ADF is single‑sided, HP Scan offers guided manual duplex scanning.

What if you want to continue using HP Smart only?

You can still scan double‑sided manually, but you must:

  1. Scan the front sides
  2. Add more pages
  3. Scan the back sides
  4. Use the preview page to manually reorder them

HP confirms HP Smart does not automatically reorder the pages.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
