@Goddo1964 If you open the top part of the ADF feeder all the way and look inside, do you see anything out of place, broken etc that might be blocking the door from being able to close?

Meanwhile, follow these steps to reset the printer.

  1. Press the Power button to turn on the product.
  2. Disconnect the USB cable from the back of the product.
  3. Disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet.
  4. Disconnect the power cord from the product.
  5. Wait 30 seconds.
  6. Reconnect the power cord to the electrical outlet.
  7. Reconnect the power cord to the product.
  8. Press the Power button to turn on the product.
  9. Reconnect the USB cable to the product.
  10. Check the product control panel to see if the error message still displays.
    • If these steps resolved the issue, there is no need to continue troubleshooting.
    • If the issue persists, see the next step.

Dust, paper fiber, and other debris might accumulate on the pick rollers and cause such issues, please follow the below steps to clean the rollers and then, try closing it:.

  1. Open the ADF cover.
  2. Lightly moisten a clean, lint-free cloth with distilled, filtered, or bottled water.

   CAUTION:

Do not use tap water or alcohol. Alcohol can dry out rollers. Tap water contains impurities that can damage rollers.

Press the cloth against the roller while rotating it with your fingers. Apply a moderate amount of pressure to remove dust or dirt buildup.

  1. Clean the separator pad using the same cloth.
  2. Firmly close the ADF cover.
  3. Try using the ADF again.

Check this related post for assistance and let me know if that helped: Click here (This is for a different printer, however, the steps may help)

If nothing works, you have a broken the ADF door tail that senses the door closed. Check by opening the cover you should see a slit with either a switch in there or a light sensor.

Push the switch down using a small flat blade screwdriver or ifs a light sensor, place a folded piece of paper in the gap.

Either one should then recognize that the door is closed.
Hope this can help and if this does work will need to replace the door.
