HP ENVY 7640 all in one

HP Recommended

Hi @JAHSH,

Thank you for your reply

I understand the fax loader on your HP ENVY 7640 All-In-One Printer is not working and you're unable to send multiple pages, here's a troubleshooting guide to resolve the issue:

1. Check the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF)

  • Inspect for Jams or Obstructions:
    • Open the ADF cover and check for any paper jams or debris.
    • Clear any stuck paper or dirt using a soft, lint-free cloth.
  • Align the Pages:
    • Ensure the stack of pages is properly aligned and within the capacity of the ADF (usually around 35 pages).
  • Check the Paper Size and Type:
    • Use standard paper sizes (e.g., A4 or Letter). Avoid thick, wrinkled, or torn pages.

2. Test the ADF Functionality

  • Try making a copy using the ADF:
    1. Place a few pages in the ADF.
    2. Press Copy on the printer control panel.
  • If the printer can copy multiple pages, the issue is likely related to the fax setup rather than the hardware.

3. Verify Fax Setup

  • Connection:
    • Ensure the telephone line is securely connected to the Line port on the printer.
  • Line Settings:
    • On the printer control panel, navigate to Fax Setup > Preferences > Fax Speed:
      • Set to Medium (V.34) for better compatibility with modern lines.
    • Check for a dial tone by using the Fax Test option in the settings menu.
  • Paper Source:
    • Confirm that the ADF is set as the default paper source for faxing.

4. Check Firmware Updates Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Update the printer's firmware to ensure the fax function is optimized:
    1. Download the latest firmware for the HP ENVY 7640 from the HP Support website.
    2. Install it using the instructions provided.

5. Send Fewer Pages at a Time

  • If the ADF struggles with multiple pages, try faxing fewer pages (e.g., 3-5 pages per batch).
  • Use the Flatbed Scanner for single-page faxes if the ADF isn't working consistently.

6. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for 60 seconds before reconnecting it.
  • Turn the printer back on and test faxing again.

Refer to this document: HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One Printer User manual

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
