I had an old hp fax that worked ok but took a lot of desk space so i decided to set up my printer to use the fax.  The fax test fails because it says there's noise on the line. But the old fax had no problems, what should i do?

Sound like your old FAX machine is NOT from HP. HP uses different phone cord for fax machines including fax function from AIO printers. You need 2 wire phone cords, not normal 4 wire phone cord.

You can buy a 2 wire phone cord at any phone store, electronic store, Amazon and eBay.

old fax WAS HP but it's so old it's no longer supported by HP. i just looked at the cord. it seems to be 2 wire.  but thanks for trying. the test report did say that it might work anyway, but slower. I'm hoping that's the case.
