HP OfficeJet Pro 9135e All-in-One Printer

Love my printer but it is time to figure out how to use second tray for odd size paper.  I want to print using 6.25 x 9.25 paper. Can you tell me what I need to do?

Welcome to the HP English Community --

Agreed - nice printer!

This printer supports lots of paper sizes and types in Tray 1, including supported type types and custom sizes.

You can adjust the settings on the printer for Tray and Paper and for the Default Print Options

Post-it Note

If you cannot remember which tray supports which paper, write a little note on a sticky paper and post it where you can see it:

Some of the highlights

----------------------------------------------------------------------

The printer supports Custom Paper Sizes

First, should you be using a supported version of Windows / MacOS,

Install the full driver printer software,

Create a Custom Paper Size form.

HP Document: HP Printers - Creating Custom Paper Sizes

Details

Custom Paper Size Form

Windows 10

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers

Top Ribbon > Print Server Properties > Tab Forms

Windows 11

Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners

Under Related Settings > Print server Properties > Tab Forms

OR

Windows 10

Control Panel > icon view > Right-Click on Printer > Printing Preferences

Tab Paper / Quality > Custom setting box

Windows 11

Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners

Select Printer > Printing Preferences

Tab Paper / Quality > Custom setting box

Note

After setting / creating your Custom Form in Printing Preferences,

Save the setup and Exit Printing Preferences.

(Re)Open Printing Preferences and check the paper list for your new custom paper size form.

EWS - Tray and Paper

Your applications / software will generally pick up the Tray and Paper settings from the printer -

If needful, the Source / tray default / setting can be changed when the current job is configured.

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Paper > Trays > click on Tray to configure

Next (as available)

Section Print > Default Print Options > Select default options / tray

Print Job

HP Smart - by itself - does not remember Defaults outside of what it finds on the printer or within the app.

HP Smart Printing and / or HP Universal Printing (Windows) print queues (possibly installed with HP Smart) understand the concept of Presets / Shortcuts.  The HP Smart Printing print queue can also be used with the full driver printer software, for example as a companion to print in Word.  HP Smart Printing prevents settings conflicts by only allowing supported combinations to be selected.

If you want to make sure the current job will grab the paper from the tray you want it done, adjust the Source / Tray to the tray you want to use as opposed to leaving the setting as "Automatic".
