how do I set a paper size as Custom? I need the size to be 8" x 4.25"

You can absolutely set a custom paper size of 8″ × 4.25″ on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 using macOS (or within the HP Smart/iOS environment). Here’s how to do it with a bit of warmth. I know how satisfying it feels to finally get the exact size you need.

Create a Custom Paper Size on macOS / iOS

On macOS

1. Open your document or photo, then go to File → Print (or press ⌘ + P).
2. In the Print dialog, click the Paper Size dropdown and choose Manage Custom Sizes…
3. Click the “+” button to add a new size. 
   • Name it something like: 8x4.25 Envelope
   • Set Width: 8 in, Height: 4.25 in
   • (Optional) Set Non‐printable area to 0 for all margins if fine print is important.
4. Click OK.
5. Back in the Print dialog, select your newly created size from Paper Size.
6. Adjust any print settings if needed (orientation, scaling), then click Print. Easy!

On iOS (HP app)

• When printing a photo or document, tap Print Options.
• Look for the Paper Size dropdown; most system-level custom sizes on macOS will sync if using AirPrint. If it doesn't appear, check on macOS first, as iOS often mirrors those options.
