Welcome to the HP Community --

Printing Preferences provides "Draft", "Normal", or "Best"  (actual name might vary).

This is normal.

Scan options provide the means to increase the Resolution when scanning the content.

Options are printer and application / software dependent.

Higher resolution scanning generally requires that the item to be scanned is placed on the Glass / Flatbed.

Exception?  Third party software:

General Example - HP Smart - Windows - Share

Note:  "Next option" could be selected as Save

HI Dragon-Fur,

Thanks for the reply!

Do you know with the printing it says Draft, Normal, Best. What the DPI is for each one? and is there a way to find it? Do you know if there is a printer where I can set the DPI to a specific number like to 600 dpi?

No, I don't know.

The information I found in my own printers' manuals on the subject is fairly useless.

Example

-- Draft: Lowest dpi typically used when ink levels are low or when high quality prints are not needed.
–  Better: Suitable for most print jobs.
–  Best: Better dpi than Better.

You can certainly check the User Guide for your printer.

Your mystery printer, unless it is the lowest of the low, and regardless of brand,  is likely quite capable of printing a decent photo file if that file high density pixel count

How to print at 600 dpi?

Use Print software that can read the data (open the photo file) and then print that data as best can be done for the quality of the photo.

Preparation

Install the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software to provide the foundation for the photo editing / printing software.
