This app keeps dinging with a notification that the scanning tool is interrupted. So what.  Why does this app need to tell me every half second with an annoying bell?  Someone just showed me how to silence the bell, but it continues to run.  It has been almost two hours and it is still going.  The newer machines become more temperamental than there previous versions.  I thought it should be the other way around.  The newer, the better.

Can someone tell me what I need to remove from my computer to keep this printer from sending these fast repeated notifications?

@iwontbuyanother, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If you wish to stop the ScanToPCActivation app on your HP device, follow these steps:

Open Task Manager:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager directly.
  • Alternatively, press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and select Task Manager.
  • In the Task Manager’s "Processes" tab, look for ScanToPCActivation.
  • Right-click on ScanToPCActivation and select End Task or End Process. This will stop the app temporarily.

Disable Startup Program

Open Task Manager:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  • Click on the "Startup" tab.
  • Look for ScanToPCActivation in the list of startup programs.
  • Right-click on it and select Disable. This will prevent the app from running automatically when you start your computer.

Run Services:

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Scroll down and look for the service named ScanToPCActivation.
  • Right-click on the service and select Stop.

Set Startup Type to Disabled:

  • Right-click the service again, select Properties.
  • In the "General" tab, set the "Startup type" to Disabled.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
