Hi @iowatree,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how concerning this is, especially when the printer goes completely dark after showing an error code. Let’s go through the most effective steps:

What the Error Means

The code 0x83C0002B on HP OfficeJet printers usually indicates a firmware or internal hardware failure. When the printer no longer powers on after unplugging, it suggests either:

  • A power supply issue (adapter or internal board).
  • A firmware crash that didn’t recover.

Steps to Try

1. Check Power Source

  • Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  • Test the outlet with another device to confirm it works.

2. Inspect Power Adapter

  • Ensure the adapter is the original HP one.
  • Check for damage or loose connections.

3. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the wall.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect and try powering on.

4. Remove External Devices

  • Disconnect USB cables, memory cards, and network cables.
  • Try powering on with only the power cord.

5. Try a Different Outlet & Adapter

If possible, test with another compatible HP adapter.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
