I've seen previous posts about this. There is no way to save a scan from the webscan tool. There is no "save icon" as the tool says, and right clicking on the scanned image doesn't provide a save option.

This is the same for Safari, Firefox and Chrome under OS/X 11/2/3

Opera does at least support right-click "save as", but will not handle multi-page documents.

Where's the QA? A prominent red message telling us to "click on the save icon" but no actual icon?

Hi @koborn,

I'd like to help!

Follow the instructions below-

For scan-enabled printers, you can scan documents and photos using Webscan over a network connection. No additional software or drivers are required.

  1. Place the original on the scanner glass or into the automatic document feeder (ADF).

    NOTE:

Do not load photos into the ADF to prevent damaging them or the printer.

  2. Make sure your printer is connected to the same network as your computer or mobile device.

  3. Find the printer IP address.

    • Printers with a control panel menu: Find the IP address in the Wireless Summary or in network settings.

Example of the Wireless Summary screen

    • Printers without a control panel menu: Print a Network configuration or Wireless Network Test Results page that lists the IP address.

Most printers without a control panel menu: Press the Wireless  and Information  buttons at the same time, or press the Wireless  and Start Copy Black  buttons at the same time.

HP DeskJet 6000 and 6400, ENVY 6000 and 6400, and Tango printers: Touch and hold the Information button  until all control panel buttons light up, and then touch the Information  and Resume  buttons at the same time.

Example of the IP address on a network configuration report

  4. Type the printer IP address into the web browser address line, and then press Enter to open the printer homepage, or Embedded Web Server (EWS).

Typing the IP address in the internet browser address bar

  5. If a login or certificate window displays, complete the information to finish opening the EWS.

    • If a website security certificate displays, click Continue to open the printer homepage.

    • If a login window opens, type admin for the username, and then type the PIN found on the label located underneath or on the back of the printer, or the password set by the printer administrator.

Example of the PIN sticker on printer

  6. Click Scan.

A You cannot use this function because it has been disabled message displays.

Opening the Scan menu in the EWS

  7. Click Settings > Security > Administrator Settings.

  8. If you are prompted to go to a secure HTTPS-enabled webpage, click OK or Redirect to HTTPS.

  9. If a Your connection is not private message displays, click Advanced > Proceed to [Printer IP address].

  10. In the Administrator Settings, locate and select the box next to Webscan or Webscan from EWS, click Apply > OK.

  11. Return to the Scan menu, select the scan preferences, click Start Scan, and then follow the instructions to save the scan.

Example of the Webscan settings menu in the EWS

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Sorry but this bears no relationship to the webscan tool I see, and doesn't even address the actual question.

I am attaching a screenshot of the tool when a scan has completed. You will see the red "click the save icon" message, and the fact that there IS no save icon.

Note that if I select jpeg as document type I am asked to right click on the scan window to save: this works, but it's no use for multi-page documents as there is no concept of multi-page jpegs.

@koborn

I understand you do not get an option to save the scanned document. As this is not a software or an application, we cannot make any changes to the web scan.

Have you tried using the Apple Image capture and check if that helps? Refer to - Scan images in Image Capture on Mac

You may also download the HP Easy Scan app from the App Store. Refer to - How to scan with an HP printer

Let me know how it goes.

<sigh> we are back where we started many weeks ago.

Firstly, the Web scan functionality is delivered by code generated by the scanner and delivered to the web browser via an HTTP request. It is therefore ridiculous to claim that "we cannot make any changes to the web scan" - it is HP code delivered as part of the product.

As for the other two suggestions, these were dealt with a long time ago and the topic was closed for updates by the HP system. Image Capture does not recognise the scanner, and while it is seen in system preferences it is not accessible. I was advised to use Air Print instead, which does at least allow printing.

The suggestion to use Easy Scan is just ridiculous: there are widespread reports that this and other HP applications have been blocked by recent OS/X versions (since about 10,0, and a couple of years back) because of HP's use of invalid certificates. My original question was essentially "How do I continue to use this device AT ALL given that the HP-delivered software will no longer run". Air Print resolved the printing. Web Scan partially resolved scanning, but the "save" function is kind of fundamental and is missing from the HTML-based code resident in the HP device.

In this case, please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region for further assistance as all the possible steps have been tried already.

You may create a case on the website to obtain a case number if required. Kindly watch this video to know how.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
