I too have same exact issues. What is the resolution to this hardware problem? I need my printer. To copy. To scan. Help.

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP Envy 5531 Printer does not scan or copy. I understand that you prints appear faint, and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

 

However, I will need a few details to provide an accurate solution,

 

Open the printer lid and initiate scan and check if the scanner light is lit up and moving across the screen.

 

Meanwhile:

 

Perform a power reset.

  1. Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Wait at least 10 seconds.
  5. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  6. Turn on the printer

Reply with the result of the above-mentioned steps, for further assistance.

I have done this several times and nothing! When I try to scan or copy the blue light on the screen just spins. It's stuck. Does the same thing when I try to copy something. I have read so many others are having the same issue ever since HP did it's most recent software update. I read that there's NO FIX and if your printer is still under warranty you can get a replacement and if not you are OUT OF LUCK! I called HP tech and I said that this is not right to make me pay for a new printer when it's HO's fault since it's their update that broke my printer/ copier and he hung up on me.

Does anyone out there have a FIX???? How do I get it to copy and scan? Is it true that HP software update broke the machine? If so they need to own up to their error and replace EVERY PRINTER WHETHER ITS UNDER WARRANTY OR NOT!!!!! This is UNACCEPTABLE! I should not have to pay for a new printer because they messed up!!!

I had my printer set to product update auto so when HP came out with their new update that update broke my machine!!! I want a new printer or a FIX!!!!

Thanks for the reply @deblisa, the copy function of the printer is independent of the update or the settings on the computer. If you are unable to make a copy on the printer, it is more likely to be a hardware issue and the printer needs to be serviced. 

 

I have escalated your concern to HP’s Support Team in your region to have it reviewed for available options, if any. 

You should be contacted within 4 business days (Excluding holidays & Weekends).

I also have the same problem!! Ive barely used mine and even have several cartridges of new ink I got on sale for when I run out so I guess im screwed. I read about people having issues with copying as well as scanning. I tried to  copy a few moments ago and it wont work either. is there any fix for this???
