Hi @Harsan

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

"Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) scan error" on an HP LaserJet M1136 MFP typically indicates a problem with the scanner's communication with your Windows computer. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this issue.

Check Hardware Connections: Ensure that the printer/scanner is properly connected to your computer via USB cable. If it's connected through a network, make sure it's connected to the correct network and has a stable connection.

Restart Devices: Sometimes, simply restarting both your computer and the printer/scanner can resolve communication issues.

Update Drivers: Outdated or corrupted drivers can lead to communication problems. Visit the HP support website and download the latest drivers and software for your HP LaserJet M1136 MFP. Install them and see if the issue is resolved.

Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Service: Ensure that the WIA service on your computer is running. To do this:

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • In the Services window, find "Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)".
  • Right-click on it, select Properties, set the Startup type to Automatic, and click Start if the service isn't running. Click Apply and OK.

Check for Conflicting Software: Some third-party software, such as security programs or other scanning software, might interfere with the scanner's operation. Temporarily disable such software and see if the scanner works.

Scan from Different Software: Try using other scanning software, like Windows Fax and Scan or third-party scanning applications, to see if the issue is specific to the software you were using.

Check for Windows Updates: Make sure your Windows operating system is up-to-date. Sometimes, updates contain fixes for compatibility issues.

Check for Firmware Updates: If your printer/scanner has firmware, check the HP website for firmware updates. Sometimes firmware updates can improve device compatibility and performance.

Reinstall Software: Uninstall the printer/scanner software from your computer and then reinstall it. Make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for installation.

Try on Another Computer: If possible, try connecting the printer/scanner to a different computer to see if the issue persists. This can help determine whether the problem is with the device itself or your computer's configuration.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
