Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

Are you starting the HP Software that you downloaded? When I start the Printer Assistant, I get options for Print, Scan, or Fax. Under “Scan” is “Scan a Document or Photo”.

When I start “Scan a Document”, I get the options to Save as PDF or JPEG,  Email as PDF or JPEG, Save as Editable OCR, or Everyday Scan on the left side of the page. There are also options for Paper Size, Resolution, and input source - Flatbed Scanner or Automatic Document Feeder on the right.

When I installed the software, I got an icon on the desktop that was called HP Officejet Pro 8600, and was a picture of the printer. Do you have an icon on the desktop?

Windows 10, puts a little info tab at the bottom left of the screen that you have to execute in order to install the software. If you do not have an icon, the execution of the download may not have been performed. If the download was not installed, you can probably go to your Downloads directory and execute the download to install the software.

The HP Scan and Print Doctor shows up under Utilities, so make sure that you select “Print, Scan, and Fax” icon in the bar at the top from the HP Printer Assistant.

If this does not help, maybe a little more info would help. Good luck.

Thank you Brian,

I had the icon on the desk top as you describe, but it did not open the printer assistant. My sotware was installed when I had Windows 7 or 8. After upgrading to Windows 10 it did not work. After your description on what it should look like in Windows 10, I de-installed everything saying HP on it and re-installed the HP software package and now it works.

I wasn't able to follow these directions. I have the 8600 Pro.

The directions say, "Start the HP Printer Software – 'Scan a Document or Photo'". I don't see this option anywhere on my HP app interface or the scanner. Only "Scan". Therefore I also could not find "Choose 'Automatic Document Feeder' rather than Flatbed".

Can you clarify, or add a screenshot?

Can a HP 8600 standard that prints double sided be converted to one that can scan or copy a two sided document?

No, the hardware is different.  You may be able to use the manual method as shown in the post here.

Under Properties in your printer, you can select type of paper, such as "premium photo paper", "plain paper", or "transparency" .  You can also select the paper size, A4, USA Letter or Business, and other selections as well as "Custom" which allows you to select any permitted size.

When you load paper into the ADF, the software automatically assumes you want the ADF to scan from.

Also when posting, tell the forum what operating system you are using.

In hplip in Linux, you are given the choice of scan choice, flatbed or automatic document feeder (ADF), and scan settings, dpi from 70 to 300 dpi, "color" choice of  Color, Grayscale, and Line art (but some scanners might rename the modes).

Line Art produces the best results for pages you will use OCR on or that you wish the smallest file size.
