Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

can not scan with hp smart with m1217nfw MFP printer

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

 

Let's run the HP Print and Scan Doctor:

If the issue persists, let's do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

 

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

 

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.)  Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Than kyou for your quick reply,

I have run the process you describe and it did not help.  After I have reinstall the printer I am getting the same message.  There is one thing , in the Hewlett Packard folder I could not see any printer related folder.  For now I am using a Epson scanner with usb port and it works good.  My Hewlett printer woud not work for scanning even with the usb cable.  It is back to square 1 that is I'm using the printer with my M1217 and the Epson for scanning.  The message I'm getting is "HP Smart can't scan from this printer. The printer might not be equipt with a scanner or HP Smart can't use the scanner of this printer". (translate from french)

Uninstall the HP Smart App and download the drivers from the link provided in the previous link and then try to scan.

 

Also, are you able to copy?

scan doctor tells me the full software is not install on my printer that it ha detected tells me to install the same package that I install 3 times and I do for a 4th time. Still the same problem, the printer works but the scan does not on my m1217 nfw printer. Before I upgraded my old laptop to my new Pavilion Hp laptop the scan feature works just fine. I am now using my epson printer with usb cable and this works just fine.

Feel sorry that a Hp pc and a Hp printer has difficult issue...
