Hi @nfred

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining that so clearly—when your HP Envy 6555e prints blank pages from the feeder tray but works fine from the scanner glass, it usually points to an issue with the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) not properly detecting or scanning the document.

Let’s walk through a few targeted steps to help restore full functionality.

Step-by-Step Fix for ADF Not Printing (Blank Pages)

1. Clean the ADF Scanner Strip

The ADF uses a narrow glass strip to scan documents—if it's dirty or smudged, it may fail to detect content.

  • Lift the ADF lid and locate the small glass strip next to the main scanner glass
  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with glass cleaner (never spray directly)
  • Gently clean the strip and let it dry completely
  • Try scanning or printing from the feeder again

2. Check Document Placement

Improper alignment can cause the ADF to feed paper without scanning.

  • Ensure pages are face up and aligned properly in the feeder tray
  • Slide the paper guides snugly against the edges
  • Avoid wrinkled, folded, or glossy paper types

3. Run Copy from ADF to Test

This helps confirm whether the ADF is scanning correctly.

  • Place a document in the feeder
  • Use the printer’s control panel to make a copy from ADF
  • If the copy is blank, the issue is with scanning—not printing

4. Update Firmware and Drivers

Outdated software can cause ADF misbehavior.

5. Reset the Printer

This clears internal memory and may resolve scanning glitches.

  • With the printer powered on, unplug the power cord from the back
  • Wait 60 seconds
  • Plug it back in and power on
  • Try printing from the feeder again

If the issue persists after these steps, the ADF sensor or scanner module may need servicing.

Let's get your printer feeding and printing properly again.
