Product: HP Envy 5530
Operating System: macOS 10.15 Catalina

All of a sudden my scanner is no longer working. 

 

I'm running a macOS Catalina 10.15.7 connected to a HP Envy 5530... This has worked without fail. It is now not working.. Please help?

 

I have updated all HP MacOS drivers, software etc and still no luck. Ive even restarted the Mac?

The solution is to download (and install) this package (From HP FTP) which will update drivers AND THE CERTIFICATE:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/hp-printer-essen...
The install takes a bit. Let it run, even if it seems like it stalled out!

It is NOT the same as the driver package, Easy Start, or Easy Admin other people are recommending.


If the link comes up blank, try right clicking and saving it. If you install this package and still have trouble, try restarting. Then go about uninstalling your printer and reinstalling USING THIS METHOD ONLY (NOT EASY START, NOT EASY ADMIN): Apple Logo (Upper Left of Screen)/System Preferences/Printers & Scanners. Then restart your computer. 

 

If you still can't find the printer, install the 5.1 driver package from HP: https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1888?locale=en_US

Then restart and try to install again through the Printers & Scanners menu.


Easy Admin did nothing. Easy Startup did nothing. 5.1 drivers did nothing. This worked for me!

Hi I have the exact same problem - I was on the phone with Apple for over two hours. I have no idea who is to blame for this mess, but it's obvious that neither Apple nor HP care that their pissing contest has screwed over all of their customers. I have no ability to scan, which is a huge part of my job right now. Apple said that HP was "aware of the problem" but since there is no actual customer service at HP beyond a bot, who knows what the reality is. 

 

I tried the link posted above, but it is dismantled. If anyone has any info on how to get my scanner working (short of having to go out and buy a new one - which you can be sure won't be an HP at this point), then please, please let me know. I have a ton of documents to scan by Monday and I have no idea how to do this now

Try right clicking and saving the first link. It is a file download. Here it is in two sections of plain text:

I have right-clicked on all of the links you have provided, and I have tried copying and pasting - either I get nothing at all or I get sent back to this thread.

 

Do you work for HP? Does anyone work for HP? 

 

At this point, I'm looking at buying an Epson printer so I can actually do my job. How dare HP treat their customers this way.

I managed to get the link to open and start the installation, but in the middle of the installation, I kept getting an error message telling me that I was downloading malware and that I should stop because it was damaging my computer. It wouldn't let me download or stop the install, so finally I had to force quit the machine altogether.
