My printer has two issues . Well three if you count the fact that it is an HP printer. The Orange light continually is flashing and i have tried all the reccomendations of shutting off both the computer and printer several times took out and put back in the ink cartridges etc. It does print but i can no longer get the computer to scan even though on the main HP smart page is shows the printer is ready. Ready to sledge hammer this HP and buy another brand

Hi @Buddha1240,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your frustration! Let's try to resolve the issues step by step before you consider a sledgehammer approach.
Orange Light Flashing
The orange flashing light typically indicates an issue with the printer, usually with the ink or paper. Since you've already tried re-inserting the ink cartridges and restarting the printer, let's look at these additional steps:
- Check the ink levels: Even if you've reinserted the cartridges, ensure they have enough ink. Sometimes low ink can cause this.
- Clear any paper jams: Even if there's no obvious jam, check the paper path for small pieces of paper or debris that could trigger the flashing light.
- Reset the printer: To perform a reset, turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source for at least 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
Scanner Unavailable
The "Scanner Unavailable" error is commonly related to either connectivity or software issues. Here are some steps to troubleshoot:
- Ensure printer is set as default: Make sure that your printer is set as the default scanner in your computer's settings.
- Reinstall HP Smart: Sometimes a simple reinstall of the HP Smart app can resolve scanning issues. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the app, then check if the scanner becomes available again.
- Check the USB/Wi-Fi connection: If you're using USB, try switching to another port. If you're on Wi-Fi, ensure that the printer and computer are on the same network.
- Windows Scan App: If HP Smart is still showing the "Scanner Unavailable" error, try using the built-in Windows "Scan" app to test if it's a software or hardware issue.
General Troubleshooting for HP Printers
- Update or reinstall drivers: Outdated or corrupted drivers can cause scanning issues. Check for driver updates in the HP Support page or try reinstalling the drivers.
- Run the Printer Troubleshooter (if you're on Windows): Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Printer, and run the troubleshooter to detect and fix issues automatically.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
