HP OfficeJet Pro 8740
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

Hi:

Have an HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 on an I-Mac (2013) with OS X El Capitan:

Using eitiher the Scan Option In the  “PRINTERS & SCANNERS Preferences,

as well as the Scanner App. itself (Applications folder) I frequently receive

following error messges:

 1) "The  Scanner reported an error.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 is currently unavailable.

Please check if it is turned on and connected,

or try again later."

(Using the Scanner App.)

Note: My printer is always turned on & connected correctly.

2) "An error occurred while communicating with the scanner

(-9923)

(Using the Scan option in the Printers & Scanners preferences

section in the OS X )

I have re-started the OfficeJet Pro alone multiple times and,

if no response, re-started both the OS x  (I-Mac) and then the

printer and still no resonse.

I then turn off everything & return a few hours later turn things

on & now the scanner works.

Should I uninstall the software & re-install it?

(if so, what's the directions for doing this?)

Or, should I remove the power plug & USB wire and then re-

connect those 2 before I try the uninstall & re-install methods?

Any correct help appreciated.

@MAMBO_MAN, welcome to the HP forums! It is a great way to post questions and find resolutions by working with specialists in the HP community.

I greatly value your relationship with HP. You are a valued HP customer and we appreciate you for doing business with HP.

I understand that you keep getting error messages while scanning from your HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 All-in-One Printer.

It’ll be a great pleasure to assist you with this.

This issue could occur if the latest version of the software is not installed.

Hence, I request you to uninstall the current software and then reinstall the full feature software from the link Full Feature software

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes.

Take care now and have a nice day ahead.

Thanks for the reply.

I did not see any uninstaller app. in the software I have

on my I-Mac. Download or Application folders.

Would it be on the HP disc accompanying the new

HP 8740?

Or is there another method used to uninstall this

software?

Addendum:

I originally used the online HP site to dowload the

"full featured software" (listed as "HP Easy Start.app").

I did not use the accompanying installation disc.

Interestingly, today when I inserted this disc (first time

used), I got a message stating that it would not work in my

computer, in spite of the disc stating that it was compatible

witn OS X El Capitan, which is what I have.

Hi again:

Two thoughts:

1) In the Mac, the HP Uninstaller.app path is:

Download folder> HP Easy Start.app>Contents>Applications>HP Uninstaller.app

2) I also have Windows 10 installed on the same computer (I-Mac) and the CD

HP software installed on it. I cannot find the path to the HP Uninstall app in Win 10.

Any help, please.

Just to let you know:

I uninstalled the "older"  software & reinstalled the full feature software from the link Full Feature software .

Since then (about 2 weeks ago) everything works perefectly - both the printer & scanner.

Thanx for your help.
