Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hi All.  My HP Deskjet 2630 printer/scanner has been working fine for years.  However, now I can pint OK but when I try to scan a document i get an error message saying my scanner is not recognised.  I am at Stone Age Man level of technical capability so anyone who can shine a light in my cave would be most welcome...

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.

 

Years is a long time to have the printer software installed.

It might be time to uninstall the printer software > Restart computer > Install a fresh copy of the printer software.

 

Before you do that,

Try / Consider

 

 

======================================================

Check / Run Windows Updates

 

Make sure all Windows Updates are current and installed (not pending).

 

======================================================

Restart "your stuff"

 

 

Restart Everything, including the router that controls your network

 

That might be enough (at least short term) -- check...

- Printer Software -

 

No joy?

 

If you have not done so,

  • Completely Uninstall the existing printer software from Programs and Features
  • Restart the computer and log in

 

After the printer software is uninstalled, check that the printer is not still lurking.

 

Windows 10

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers

If the printer is listed, Right-Click on the printer "Remove device" > Restart the computer and sign in.

 

Windows 11

Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > Select Printer > Remove (upper right)

OR

Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Devices > (Scroll down) More devices and printer settings

If the printer is listed, Right-Click on the printer "Remove device" > Restart the computer and sign in.

 

 

For your Printer - Find, Download ,and Save the Web Pack installation package.

HP DeskJet / Ink Advantage 2600 All-in-One Printer series Print and Scan Driver and Accessories 

 

 

  • Reminder:  If using USB cable between printer and computer, disconnect the cable before installing software.  Later... Connect the cable when instructed (near the end of the installation procedure).
  • Open File Explorer
  • Navigate to the folder in which you saved the installation file  (likely Downloads)
  • Right-Click on the installation package and “Run as Administrator
  • Reminder:  If using a USB printer cable to connect the printer to the computer, connect the cable when instructed to do so, near the end of the installation procedure
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

 

 

 

 

Note:  If you need more help to install stubborn printer software, please ask.
