printer and fax not working

We got a refurbushed printer last week and its not working. Fax not reciveng or sending Comcast came and lines are fine. DEVICE NOT WORKIN G. THIS IS MY FOURTH AND LAST HP PRINTER

First, Confirm the Basics

1. Check Fax Setup
   • Make sure the phone line is connected to the 1-LINE port on the printer (not the 2-EXT port).
   • If you have a DSL or VoIP line, you may need a filter or adapter for proper fax transmission.
      
2. Run Fax Test
   • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Fax Settings > Run Fax Test.
   • This will print a report showing if the printer detects a dial tone and if the configuration is correct.
      
3. Disable Error Correction Mode (ECM)
   • Sometimes, ECM causes issues with VoIP or digital lines.
   • Navigate to Fax Settings > Advanced Fax Setup > Error Correction Mode and set it to Off.
      
4. Check Fax Speed
   • Lower the fax speed to Slow (9600 bps) under Fax Settings > Advanced Fax Setup.
   • This helps with compatibility on Comcast digital lines.
      
5. Verify Fax Number
   • Ensure you’re dialling the correct number with any required prefixes (like 9 for an outside line).
