printer auto feed and file conversion issues

I have a hp 7640 printer that will auto feed for copy but not for scan and when I scan the file comes as a jpeg not pdf I use to be able to scan as pdf but now I get error message that says adobe reader can't open because it's not a supported type file or has been sent as an uncoded email  I use to be able to save as pdf but all saves keep coming as jpeg I call hp and can't get live help and get virtual and can't obtain ref # to get live help and phone disconnects

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the "cannot save the scan as a pdf file" issue. 

To better assist you -

what is the operating system on your computer?

Are you scanning from the printer control panel or the scan option from your computer?

Meanwhile, refer to the documents on how to save as pdf.
