I've been trying to scan and print but keep getting a message saying (Device Communication Error.

An error occurred while communicating with the device. Please check that the device is properly

connected and powered on.)

I reboot the B210 a couple of times and everything is connected.

It was working last night but for some reason today nothing is happening.

Can someone offer some advice.

Hello, @sagman,

Did you try clicking the "+" sign and then try adding the printer? Are you getting the "No printer available" message then?

Also, how is the printer connected to your MAC? Is it via USB cable or over the network?

If the printer is connected using the USB, then try unplugging and replugging the USB cable and then click on + to add the printer.

If the printer is connected over the network, then go to http://hp.care/2iZxDkz and maximize any OS version and then follow the "Step 2" to connect the printer to the network. Once the printer is connected then click "+" icon and proceed with the printer installation.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Cheers 🙂

Hello, @sagman – Hope you are well 🙂

Thank you for becoming an HP Forum member. It is a dynamite location to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others.

I understand that you are having issues while trying to scan on your Photosmart printer. I would suggest uninstalling the printer drivers and then install the updated drivers. Follow the steps mentioned below:

  1. First, uninstall the old drivers: http://hp.care/2cD0tFl
  2. Once done, restart the MAC
  3. Click on  http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software11/COL34274/mp-84878-2/PS_AIO_08_B210_USW_Full_Mac_WW_74.dmg to install the MAC 10.5 drivers for your printer.
  4. Restart the MAC again and then to scan.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Cheers 🙂

Hi Dvortex,

I followed your instructions.

When I double clip on the installer I received a the following message.

"HP Installer can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.

Your security preferenes allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store

and identified developers."

I have the orginal installers disk that came with the B210.

Do you recommend that I use that.

If not, what do you suggest.

Thanks,

Tony

Hi Dvortex,

Here is an update.

It seems that I cannot install the disk that came with the B210 because it

is not compatible with my operating system. I have 10.10.5.

When I changed my security preference to upload the the HP software.

this is the message I receive.

"Unsupported Operating System"

This installer is not compatible with the version of the operating system on your computer.

It is only compatible with 10.6 and below. for more information visit hp.com

Now what do I do?

Hello @sagman,

Thanks for the update!

I was operating under the impression that your OS is 10.5 version till you mentioned that your OS is 10.10.5

Let's try to install the printer as explained below:

  • Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
  • Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
  • Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
  • Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
  • Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
  • Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
  • Restart your computer and then go back to System preferences – Printers and scanners.
  • Click the “Add button” (+).
  • Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
  • Click “Print Using...”, and then select the name of your printer (By default “Airprint” would be selected)

Once the printer is installed, also install the HP Easy scan for the scanning purpose. You can download the HP Easy Scan from here: http://hp.care/2d4H9Ez

Let me know if that helps!

Good luck 🙂

Hi, I tried your instructions.

Unfortuneately it's not working.

I did the first two bullets.

I right -click the blank space in the printer list, and the Reset printing system did not come up.

It says  "No printers are available - click Add (+) to set up printer.

Since I uninstalled the B210 from your last instruction I'm not seeing the printer.

I can't go any further then that.

Sorry about that.

Do you have any other suggestions.

Hi Dvortec

Thanks for the information and your help.

My daughter fix it for me.

It seems that my WiFi was the problem.

Again, thanks for the help.
