As of this afternoon my printer and scanner were working fine.  I am on wireless, windows 11, and the printer is an Officejet 8720.  

 

This evening the printer is working just fine, but the scanner comes back with Scanning is currently unavailable.  Checking connections with HPSmart, the printer is online and the scanner is offline.

I had already tried your solution after I incurred the problem.  That is how I knew that the printer was showing online but the scanner was reported off line.

I did do everything that the article recommended, but nothing seemed to work and that is why I made the post.

Then, 4 days ago the scanner started working again

Normally these steps work to access the scanner again:

 

  1. shut down printer via on/off switch
  2. switch off the router
  3. shut down the computer
  4. wait about 60 sec.
  5. switch on the router, wait until the router has completely initialized itself again
  6. Switch on the printer, wait until the printer has finished its initialization
  7. switch on computer, log in (with admin rights) and wait about 10 sec.


... and now everything's working again?

 

If not then

  1. the printer is too far away!
  2. was this software package installed?
    HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Print and Scan Driver and Accessories 
    Version: 40.15.1230_1
    File name: Full_Webpack-40.15.1230_1-OJ8720_Full_Webpack.exe (115.8 MB)
