What you can do depends on your printer model --

  • When supported, the how-to / options for Scan to USB are might be included in your printer's user guide.
  • When supported, look for the Scan to USB setup in the Embedded Web Server (EWS).

Sample - OfficeJet Pro 9135e

Because it can pull information from many sources, it might be worth asking your AI Assistant.

Best suited to the HP environment - use the HP AI.

The HP AI will want you to include your printer model but will continue without if told to do so.

Here's the link to HP's very own GenAi – currently available under the virtual assistant, option named "Use SupportGPT" - https://virtualagent.hpcloud.hp.com/?botClient=Portal&lc=en&cc=us

Scanning to a USB Drive on HP Printers

HP printers with scanning capabilities allow you to scan documents directly to a USB flash drive. Here’s how to do it:

Requirements

  • An HP printer with a USB port and scanning feature.
  • A USB flash drive.

Steps to Scan to USB

  1. Prepare the Document

    • Place the document on the scanner glass or in the document feeder.
  2. Insert the USB Drive

    • Plug the USB flash drive into the USB port on the front of the printer.
  3. Access the Scan Feature

    • On the printer control panel, look for the option to scan.
    • Select "Scan To" and then choose "USB Drive."
  4. Select File Type

    • Choose the file type you want to save the scanned document as (e.g., PDF, JPEG).
  5. Name the File

    • Enter a name for the scanned file using the keypad.
  6. Preview and Adjust Settings (Optional)

    • If available, you can preview the scan and adjust settings like resolution or color.
  7. Start Scanning

    • Press the "Start" button to begin scanning.

Additional Configuration

For some models, you may need to enable the Scan to USB feature through the HP Embedded Web Server (EWS). This involves:

  • Accessing the Security tab.
  • Ensuring "Enable Host USB plug and play" is activated.
  • Checking the "Enable Scan to USB Drive" option.

Tips

  • Ensure the USB drive is formatted correctly (FAT32 is commonly used).
  • Check the printer manual for model-specific instructions.

Following these steps will allow you to easily scan documents directly to a USB drive using your HP printer.
