Hi there,
I am experiencing problems when scanning text documents.
Same problem on two different laptops, two different scanners (HP Envy 5000 and DeskJet 3750) and two different operating systems (Windows 7 and Windows 11).
I choose ‘scan item type’ document and ‘destination file type’ PDF.
The result is saved as Adobe Acrobat Document (.pdf) but when I open that PDF it appears to be scanned as photo.
Cursor = crosshairs instead of I-beam
Highlight = circle instead of I-beam
Anyone any idea?

@ponyscan, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.
I understand you have issues while scanning. To assist you better, are you using the HP Smart app to scan?
Make sure the app is up to date. You may also reinstall it if required.
Download and use the HP Scan and Capture app to check if that helps.
Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any driver issue
Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix scanning'.

Thanks for your reply.
Yes, I do use HP Smart app to scan.
I did download HP Scan and Capture app.
HP Print and Scan Doctor shows an issue with Device Manager.
For HP Envy 5000
Means: the device "SWD ...." needs further/more installations.
But it doesn't show which installations are missing.
Also an issue with driver, registration and HP Scan.
For HP Deskjet 3700 this:
HP Print and Scan Doctor doesn't proceed any further.

Try making a standalone copy from the flatbed glass and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.
Update the printer firmware
Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your computer.
Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
What was the result with HP Scan and Capture app?
Also, try reinstalling the HP Smart app and check if that helps.
