after the last two win 10 updates my scanner would not work-- I had to uninstall and re-install the software to make the scanner work again.

I stopped further updates-- Will I have to re-install after all WIN 10 updates?

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Deskjet 2540 All-In-One Printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

 

To answer your question: No, you don't have to reinstall after all Windows updates.

 

Make sure the printer firmware is also up to date.

 

Update the printer firmware 

 

  • Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your product
  • Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

You may also use the backup scanning application "HP Scan and Capture" designed for Microsoft Windows Operating System and use it.
