Hi @Jean1802

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Let’s go step by step to restore the scan functionality on your DeskJet 2540:

1. Confirm Printer Connection

  • Make sure the printer is powered on and connected to your computer via USB or Wi‑Fi.
  • If using Wi‑Fi, check that both the printer and computer are on the same network.

2. Restart Devices

  • Restart the printer and the computer.
  • After restart, check if the scan option reappears in the HP App.

3. Verify HP App Installation

  • Open the HP App on your computer.
  • Ensure the DeskJet 2540 is listed. If not, add the printer again by selecting Add Printer.

4. Run Diagnose & Fix

  • In the HP App, go to Printer Settings.
  • Select Diagnose & Fix to automatically check and repair issues with the scan function.

5. Check Windows Services (for Windows OS)

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Locate Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service.
  • Ensure it is set to Automatic and is running. Restart the service if necessary.

6. Test Scanning

  • Open the HP App and select Scan.
  • Try scanning a document to confirm functionality.

7. For macOS

  • Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select the DeskJet 2540, then click Scan.
  • If the option is missing, remove the printer and add it again.

If the scan command still does not appear after these steps, reinstall the HP App and printer drivers to refresh the setup. This usually resolves missing scan options.
