I use a MacBook Air with my MFP281cdw at home. I have a solid wifi signal and also a booster half way between the hub and the printer. When I scan anything it takes forever and the file size is huge, between 2 to 5 MB per page of text. It does not matter if the original is B and W or color. The file should be just a few hundred KB. I have the resolution set at 200 dpi. HP says there is a "known software issue" with the scanner but they don't have a fix, at least not one they are willing to share with their customers. ANY help will be appreciated.

@Captain767, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand you are facing issues while scanning. To assist you better,

  • Which app are you using to scan from your MAC?
  • Are you able to print fine?
  • Try making a standalone copy and check how long it takes. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

Let us try these steps:

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your MAC.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Also, check for any software updates on MAC

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

Kindly install the HP Easy Scan or HP Smart app from the App store.

Try scanning and check the result. For more info, refer to this document - How to Scan

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
