HP DESKJET INK ADVANTAGE 5275
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

when i try to scan or copy a page a THICK PURPLE LINE appears in the file or copy from top to bottom.

this isn't a thin line like others are complaining about, it is about an inch thick and colorful.

I didn't see any dirt on the glass but I cleaned it anyway, it didn't help.

can anyone help me?

To assist troubleshooting and narrow down the problem, try scanning from the glass instead of the adf. If you get the same defect then likely either something has polluted the optics inside the scanner or the scanner head is defective. If the defect does not occur when scanning from glass then likely there is something on the glass, even near invisible pollutants like finger prints can cause defects.

I tried to scan with both options (the one that pulls the paper in and the one in which i need to just place it on the glass surface).

the same thing happens, the device has been in my possession for years so i didn't buy it defective.

is it possible that with time that component starts wearing down?

do i need to open the printer and clean it directly or replace it?

is it possible that this is a software and not a hardware problem?
