Hi @Rodney_60,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your scanned photos are stretching when saved in JPEG format, there could be a couple of reasons for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow.

  • Check Scanner Settings: Ensure that the scanner settings are configured correctly. Check for options like aspect ratio, scaling, or any settings that might affect the dimensions of the scanned image. Make sure the settings match the original size of your photos.
  • Software Settings: When using scanning software on your computer, check the settings within the software. Some applications may have options that automatically resize or stretch images during the scanning process. Look for settings related to image size, resolution, or aspect ratio.
  • Resolution Settings: Ensure that you are scanning the photos at an appropriate resolution. If the resolution is too low, the images may appear stretched when viewed on a computer screen. Higher resolutions generally result in better image quality.
  • File Format: Although you mentioned saving the scanned photos in JPEG format, check if there are any options related to compression or resizing within the scanning software. JPEG files can be compressed, and some software may have default settings that impact the dimensions of the saved image.
  • Update Drivers: Make sure that you have the latest drivers installed for your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer. Outdated drivers may cause compatibility issues and unexpected behavior.
  • Check Preview: Before finalizing the scan, use the preview feature to see how the scanned image will look. This can help you identify any issues before saving the file.
  • Try Different Software: If the issue persists, try using a different scanning software to see if the problem is specific to the application you are currently using.

Remember to consult your printer's manual or online documentation for specific instructions related to scanning settings and troubleshooting.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your quick response.  I will look into some of these, but not sure were to find it all.  I have done more investigating and it may be more my photo reader and not the scanner.  I may have follow up questions.

Have a great day

Rodney
