Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8034e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Using the HP app, how do I set up a shortcut that will allow me to go to my printer (an HP OfficeJet 8034e) and scan a document to PDF format WITHOUT having to start that process on my computer. My current printer software is the HP app, downloaded today.

The back story is that I uninstalled the old software that allowed the creation of this shortcut because 'scan to computer' (i.e., to PDF) was unstable: the shortcut kept getting turned off, and could not be reinstated without mayor workflow interruptions (reboot the computer, reboot or unplug the printer, then repeat this till it worked). Now, it is not even clear that such a shortcut can be created.

If I understand what you are asking, the feature you seek is not part of the HP App.

HP Smart (legacy) and HP App can (and do) support a form of Shortcuts --

  • Application based Shortcuts are a different animal from the Shortcuts that are part of the full driver HP Scan software.

  • HP Smart / HP App shortcuts are created and started on your device (computer, tablet, phone).

  • Application based Shortcuts must be self-contained, that is, sign-in, permission, and other setups must be created and embedded ahead of time.

  • Application based Shortcuts might require additional configurations (for example, if the Shortcut is meant to "Share" to email or "Save" to a Cloud account).

Scan to Computer and the related HP Scan based Shortcuts that can be transferred to the printer LCD are part of having installed the full driver printer software.

The full driver printer software can (should) be able to be (re)installed using either the EasyStart Internet wrapper method or by downloading / saving / installing the "Offline" driver installation package.

Web Page -- Wrapper

HP Easy Start Printer Setup Software (Internet connection required for driver installation)

OR

Web  Page -- Driver Package

HP OfficeJet Pro 8030 All-in-One Print EasyStart Printer Setup Software – Offline Use Only

True -- It is necessary to (re)install the full driver

AND

You must enable the Manage Scan to Computer feature --

AND

HP Scan Shortcuts transferred to the printer LCD shortcut list must be self-contained -- do not expect to be able to interact with the Shortcut once it is started (on the printer).

AND

-- Reminder -- The LCD Scanner list of Shortcuts is limited to five profiles.

AND

The printer's connection to the network must be stable.

-- One thing that can help (in fact, might be significant) --

If not done, consider assigning the printer its own static / manual IP address.

Assign the IP address on both the printer and on your router.

-- One step further --

Assign static / manual IP addresses for all the devices controlled by your network.

-- What else? --

I cannot speak to the instability -- securing the connection (manual IP Address) can help.

In general,

  • If Ethernet is an option, use it to increase stability.
  • Wireless --Printer Location -- Too far away from the router is as bad as too close.
  • If forced to use Wireless, in fact, and if the connection is not stable, consider switching the frequency to the 2.4GHz band.  Slower and Steady is always better than Faster and Flaky.

-- What about? --

  • If the Manage Scan to Computer process is not stable, that is, the process won't stay active in the Task Manager after being started, consider leaving the Manage Scan to Computer feature disabled until you need it -- then, before you use the feature, Enable it from your computer.

Thank you for this very comprehensive group of suggestions. I will try once again to download and install the software, and work through some of your suggestions.

You are welcome.

Aside from the odd instability you reported, the setup is fairly straight forward and might be familiar.

Perhaps add the following checkpoints --

  • Make sure Network Discovery and File and Printer Sharing are enabled in your Private Network. Windows_Network-and-Sharing_Discovery_5Windows_Network-and-Sharing_Discovery_5

  • Make sure you (and not Windows) have control over the Default Printer.  Default_Printer_Check_and_Manage_4Default_Printer_Check_and_Manage_4

Thank you again for taking the time to add this information. I will keep this for future reference, but after TWO days work on this, I don't  have any more time to try to resolve these issues.

The basic problem is that I am no longer able to download and install the 'full version' of the printer software. It does not matter if the version comes from the HP Support site or the HP driver site. For the online version, Easy Start (so-called) hangs up with a perpetual spinning circle just after asking me whether I want to share data.  In the 'Offline' version, it hangs up at the same point, but just produces a blank screen.

I have tried adding the .exe files to my security software, including the Setup.exe that is buried in the C:\USERS\...AppData\Temp files.  I have tried to run the setup directly from those files. I have briefly shut off my firewall and other protection functions. I have run SCANNOW to correct any MS software problems.

I am now settling for the HP App (In my opinion, like the unfortunately-named SMART app, ok for phones and little else except its perhaps use by HP for ads);  using Microsoft drivers; and converting any printer-originated scans to PDFs later.

I wish I could offer solid advice.

I've had trouble with the EasyStart wrappers -- At the moment, I'm not a fan.

No, don't bother tearing apart your Windows system -- it doesn't help.

(Personal opinion)

I've sent a message to our Moderators --

It might help or might not.

Hopefully, one of the agents knows which of the public solutions will help.

If I run across a solution that I can share, I will post back.

-- What else? --

I can share some examples of how to create a Shortcut for the HP App.

These tend to work -- but yes, they must be created and started on the computer (or tablet, phone).
