Hi @Al450

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining the issue—it's genuinely frustrating when scanning refuses to cooperate, especially when printing works just fine.

Let’s walk through the steps to get your HP printer scanning smoothly to your All-in-One PC:

1. Install or Reinstall HP Smart

Make sure HP Smart is installed and properly configured:

  • Download it from the Microsoft Store.
  • Sign in with your HP account.
  • Add your printer and ensure it shows as “Connected.”

2. Enable Scan-to-Computer in HP Smart

  • Open HP Smart → Click Scan.
  • If prompted, allow access to your PC.
  • Try scanning a test document to verify functionality.

If the scan button is missing or greyed out, continue with the next steps.

3. Install Full Feature Software

Even if printing works, scanning may require the full driver suite:

  • Visit HP’s Software and Driver Downloads.
  • Download the Full Feature Software and Driver for your printer.
  • Run the installer and follow all prompts, including enabling scan services.

4. Check Windows Services

Sometimes the scan service is disabled:

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Locate Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
  • Right-click → Properties → Set Startup type to Automatic → Click Start if it’s stopped.

5. Use Windows Scan App

  • Download the Windows Scan app from the Microsoft Store.
  • Open the app → Select your printer → Choose scan settings → Click Scan.

6. Firewall and Antivirus Settings

Security software can block scan communication:

  • Temporarily disable third-party antivirus or firewall.
  • Try scanning again.
  • If it works, add HP Smart and Windows Scan as exceptions.

Just let me know what you've tried and any error messages you've seen. You're close—we’ll get scanning back on track.
