Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended

I can't get my 7602 printer to scan to a shared network folder.  What are all of the steps necessary to configure sharing of the folder, configuring the firewall on the windows, configuring the firewall on the printer, creating a local account for the printer, and configuring the scan profile in the printer.  I've done all sorts of combinations without success.  Sometime I get a configuration to test successfully but then get the error message when I actually scan the document from the control panel on the printer.

Hi @MKBurel,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Fixing the "test successfully but fails during the scan" error requires correctly aligning the Windows network path syntax, local account credentials, and permissions, which are often broken by Windows updates or sleep mode.

Here are all the steps to configure your setup.

1. Create a Local User Account (Highly Recommended):

Using your Microsoft Account or an account with a blank password causes HP printers to fail intermittently.

  1. Go to Settings > Accounts > Other users.

  2. Click Add account, choose "I don't have this person's sign-in information," then Add a user without a Microsoft account.

  3. Name the user "HPPrinter" and set a secure password.

2. Configure the Shared Folder:

  1. Create a folder (e.g., C:\ScanFolder). Right-click the folder and select Properties.

  2. Go to the Sharing tab and click Advanced Sharing. Check Share this folder.

  3. Click Permissions. Add HPPrinter, highlight the user, and check Allow for Full Control. Click OK.

  4. Go to the Security tab, click Edit, add HPPrinter, grant it Full Control, and click OK.

3. Configure Windows Firewall:

  1. Search for and open Windows Defender Firewall in the Start menu.

  2. Click Advanced settings on the left.

  3. On the left pane, click Inbound Rules. Look for File and Printer Sharing (SMB-In).

  4. Ensure the rule is Enabled and the profile is set to Private (or Domain, depending on your network).

4. Configure Printer Scan Profile (via EWS):

  1. On the printer's touchscreen, tap the network/wireless icon to find the printer’s IP Address.

  2. Open a web browser on your PC, type the IP Address in the URL bar, and press Enter.

  3. Go to the Scan/Digital Send tab and click Scan to Network Folder (or Quick Sets).

  4. Click Add to create a new profile.

  5. Network Path: Use the exact format \\ComputerName\ScanFolder (Do not use mapped drives like Z:). Use your PC's actual computer name.

  6. Authentication: Enter the HPPrinter local credentials you created in Step 1.

  7. Click Apply and Test.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.
