We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

Recently when trying to scan I get a blue background on the entire page. This is a new issue. I tried the solution of unplugging the power and starting again the printer without positive results

@Huguesj, Welcome to HP Support Community!

 

I see that you have issues with scanning, to be able to assist you better, I'd like to know the following-

  • Does printing also have similar issues?
  • What happens when you make photocopies on the printer?

Meanwhile, Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website

With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

 

Follow the steps from the document HP Printers - Resolving Copy Problems to isolate and resolve the issue.

When printing and making photocopies everything works perfectly. It is only when scanning that the full page blueish background happened.
I tried to update the printer firmware however I could only download a updated driver from HP Support website for macOS Catalina v. 10.15.4 as HP Support does not offer Firmware update download.
The document HP Printers - Resolving Copy Problems does not cover my scanning problem. 
As when I downloaded the Driver I saw the information message saying:
Facing print or scan issues after updating to macOS Catalina 10.15?  
Use AirPrint to print & Image Capture to scan.
I tried to use Image Capture to scan but the exact same problem remains.

The Dark background could be a result of “Low Contrast” or “Low Resolution” or “Low Output Selection” in the Scan Settings.

 

Solution 1:-

  • While Sending Scan to Email from the Printer Control Panel, after entering the to and Subject details, you would find Settings Option as shown in Pic 2.
  • Click on Settings and Scroll to find various settings.
    • Look for Resolution :- Keep it min 200, if needed increase to 300
    • Look for Output Color :- Increase this using the slider.
    • Look for Contrast if present :- Increase the Contrast to 30 to 40 units.
    • Look for Brightness if present :- Increase the Brightness.
    • Also look for Paper Size , Source , File Type, and select them accordingly.

 

NOTE:- The above settings vary from printer to printer.

Try this and then Scan and Check the results.

 

Solution 2:-

 

Set up a New Scan to Email on EWS, and while setting it up look for the settings like

  • “Default Output Quality” – Keep it High
  • “Default Color Preference” – Select RGB
  • “Default Resolution” – Min 200, increase if needed
  • “Contrast” – Increase
  • “Brightness – Increase

 

Again note that the above settings vary from Printer to Printer.

Try these and check the results.
