HP OfficeJet Pro 8710
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

I used to be able to scan images to my computer from the printer touchscreen. However the shortcut is no longer there, there is only an icon to scan to USB. The printer and computer are connected via ethernet and I am able to initiate a scan from my computer but it is more time consuming. Please help.

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

How to Scan to Computer

Once you have installed the FULL feature  software:

1. Click on the printer Icon (on your desktop) and it will bring up the HP Printer Assistant.
2. Under the Scan menu, there is a “Manage Scan to Computer”, click on that.
3. Make sure that you “Enable” Scan to Computer. Also make sure the tab “Automatically start Scan to Computer when I log on to Windows” is checked if you want to make this feature permanent. (the following video will show you how)

Hope that helps.

That is not the issue. I am able to initiate a scan to my computer via my computer. I used to be able to initiate this via my printer touch screen but cannot anymore. Doing it from the printer is much faster and more convenient. I tried calling HP support a few times but they gave me different answers, we're rude and even hung up on me.

I do appreciate your trying though, it's must more than I got from the HP support team.

Hi @Kristin2

Scan to Computer is actually using the printer control panel to send to computer- that link may have been disabled, have you checked?

If it's enabled and you still cannot find your computer on the front panel, then perhaps you can try to uninstall and reinstall the FULL feature software and try enabling the "Scan to computer" again.

We'd recommend that you try using a TCP IP port when you do the fresh install.

Create a TCP IP port

1. Print a Configuration Page to get the printer's IPv4 address (you can also tap on the wireless icon on the Front panel of your Printer to get the IP address)
2. On your PC, go to Control Panel, from Devices and Printers, right click the printer and left click Printer Properties, select the Ports tab.
3. Click Add Port, select Standard TCP/IP Port, then select New Port and follow the wizard.
4. Type in the proper IP address for the printer.

This video resource will show you how to do it:

Create & Use TCP IP port

Note that you can ALWAYS revert back to the original port that the HP software installed by selecting the HP port under the Ports tab (in Printer Properties)

Let us know if that works
