When trying to scan from photoshop I got a message "this device not found" so then tried scanning from hp smart and got a message "couldn't connect to scanner" even though it shows my device at the top of the page with "ready" written under it. After running the hp print and scan doctor it diagnosed a Windows WIA issue. I followed the instructions but still wouldn't work. I checked the wia status in services and was ok. I have tried numerous fixes on the forums etc with no luck and then decided to completely uninstall the device and reinstall it as per hp guidance but still no luck!!!!! The scanner works ok from the printer control panel. The device worked fine last week but had a windows update since then - coincidence? PLEASE HELP.

Welcome to the HP support community.

Which operating system is installed on the computer to which this printer is connected?

Hi Sandytechy20, thanks for your reply. I'm on Windows 10 HOWEVER, the problem has now been resolved (mostly). After carrying out numerous actions from advice as stated previously (after a while no 'new' advice was forthcoming) I decided, through frustration, to carry out the said advices in different orders, including numerous re-starts and driver downloads, and eventually my PC couldn't see the scanner nor printer!!! I thought I had completely kn*****ed it!! Anyway I went into 'Devices and Printers (again!!!) and chose 'add a printer' and it appeared. Although no scanner was showing anywhere I tried a test print, ok, and then tested the scanner (with crossed fingers) and, lo and behold, IT WORKED!!!! I don't know why this time as I had tried this a couple of times previously but, hey, it works now. However, when I looked at 'Events' under Device Manager - Properties (for the scanner, that FINALLY shows up which it didn't previously), there is a message stating "Driver Management has concluded the process to add Service usbscan for Device Instance ID USB\VID_03F0&PID_AD2A&MI_04\6&20ACD853&11&0004 with the following status: 0.". I don't know what this means but I'm not going to go and do any more work on it as the scanner now works and I don't want to risk further issues especially after spending around 16 hours scrutinising the web and carrying out numerous actions!! I know there's no clear solution here to help anyone else but I just wanted to let the readers know that my problem has been resolved.
