NIce printer copy and fax.  First I would like to say a all in one that does not include fax is not a all in one.  Scanner never worked since I got a few months ago.  When I go to the printer page icon on comp and click scan a document mostly it says operation could not be completed error 0x00000015.  The device is not read.

IF I shut off printer and re start it will bring up a scan page.   I click scan.  It starts to scan the printer is physically moving.  Then message problem prevented doc from being scanned.  And then some useless info about trying again bla bla bla.

When I click scanner properties it says you imaging device successfully completed diagnostic test.

When I click scan on printer it says no scan options whatever that means.  At one time It did bring up a message about to email or PDF or whatever and I tried to scan but it was unsuccessful.

I got a temporary canon just so I can scan.  And with that one I had to re install the driver, the bastards will not give you a 50 cent disk which to me always make it ten thousand times easier.  But it does scan now.  I did try that with the HP but it did not help.

Can I get some useful info on how to get this working.

 Hi @brewers3485,

I'd like to help!

I understand you are unable to scan.

HP Officejet J6480 All-in-One Printer driver for windows 7 is not available from the HP website. However, you can add the printer using a windows built-in driver.

Refer to -HP printer setup (Windows built-in driver)

You can scan using Microsoft paint-

On Paint -

  1. Open Paint. Not all models are compatible with all listed operating systems. ...
  2. Click File → From Scanner or Camera. If File is not available on the menu bar, click Alt on your keyboard, to display it.
  3. If prompted, select your scanner from the list and click OK.
  4. Choose your desired scan options. ...
  5. Click Scan.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I tried the paint way.  It seemed like it was working but when I opened up the scan it was a all white page.  I tried to do the scan again and I get this message on paint.  Unable to retrieve picture from device.  Verify device properly connected and try again.

How is the printer connected to the device USB or wireless?

USB

Check the USB setup-

Check the USB cable for damage and recommended length, and then restart your printer and computer.

  1. Turn off the printer and the computer.

  2. Disconnect the USB cable from the computer and printer, and then inspect the cable.

    • If the cable is damaged or longer than 3 m (9 ft 10 in), replace it.

    • If the cable is undamaged and shorter than 3 m (9 ft 10 in), connect the cable to a different USB port on the computer. The port should be USB 2.0 or greater. If you are using a USB hub or docking station, connect the cable directly to the computer.

  3. Connect the cable to the printer.

  4. Turn on the computer, and then wait for the start up process to complete.

  5. Turn on the printer, and then add the printer (Mac) or wait for the computer to install the new device (Windows).

Hope this helps!
