Hello @Judeo1 ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8034e is reporting that the scanner is damaged, yet it still functions for printing, follow these steps to address the issue:

1. Check for Physical Obstructions or Debris:

  • Inspect the scanner glass and the automatic document feeder (ADF) for any obstructions, dust, or debris which might be causing the error. Clean them carefully with a soft, lint-free cloth and a mild glass cleaner. Remember not to spray the cleaner directly onto the glass.

2. Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for approximately 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the printer to the power source and turn it on to see if the issue persists.

3. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and install the HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows. This tool can automatically diagnose and resolve many issues affecting HP printers.

4. Update Printer Firmware:

  • Make sure the printer’s firmware is up-to-date. You can check for firmware updates via the HP Smart app or HP’s official website. An outdated firmware might give false error reports.

5. Use the HP Embedded Web Server (EWS):

  • Access the printer’s EWS to check for any error logs or notifications that might further explain the issue.
  • To access the EWS, ensure your printer is connected to your network, find your printer’s IP address from the control panel, type it into the web browser’s address bar, and log in.

6. Contact HP Support:

  • If the steps above do not resolve the issue, reach out to HP Customer Support for further assistance, as there might be an internal hardware issue needing professional repair or replacement.

Taking these steps should help you troubleshoot and possibly resolve the scanning issue. If the problem persists, professional support through HP might be necessary to check if there is indeed a mechanical fault with the scanner.
