I understand how frustrating scanner issues with your DeskJet Ink Advantage 3830 can be, especially when printing still works fine. Let’s troubleshoot this using steps, starting with the essentials:

1. Run HP Smart’s Diagnose & Fix

  • Open the HP Smart app on your device.
  • Click the 🔧 Diagnose & Fix icon.
  • Let the tool detect and repair scanner-related issues automatically.

 

2. Verify Printer Setup

  • Confirm the printer is powered on, connected, and recognized in HP Smart.
  • Check that it’s on the same network or connected via USB to your computer.

 

3. Confirm Scanner Hardware & Settings

  • Make sure the scanner lid is closed properly, and the document is placed flat on the glass.
  • If using the ADF feeder, try scanning flatbed instead to check if the feeder might be faulty.

 

4. Update Drivers & Software

 

5. Restart Devices

  • Power off the printer, unplug it for 60 seconds, then plug and turn it back on.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Attempt to scan again.

 

6. Test with the HP Printer Software (Windows)

  1. Open HP Scan (installed with the Full Feature driver).
  2. Choose Scan a Document or Photo → select Flatbed or Document Feeder based on your media.
  3. Begin the scan and verify the output.

⚠️ Note: The HP Smart app may not always use the correct scan path. HP Scan is more reliable for document feeder scans.
