Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended

Since upgrading to Windows 11, scanning is no longer working.  Yet printing is fine.  When scanning -  Returns an error message " Scanning is currently unavailable - check printer connection, once connected, try again ".    Yet, this printer is fine printing and is hard wired (ethernet connection).

What can I try?

Hi @Janeb508

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for confirming that printing works fine and the printer is connected via Ethernet. I understand how frustrating it feels when scanning stops working after a Windows upgrade, especially when everything else seems in place.

Let’s go through a structured set of steps to restore scanning functionality.

Power reset

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cable from both the printer and wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the cable back in and power on.
This clears temporary states that can block scanning.

Check Windows scanning services

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Locate Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
  • Right‑click → Properties → Set Startup type to Automatic → Click Start if not running.
  • Click Apply and OK.

Re‑add the printer

  • Go to Settings → Devices → Printers & scanners.
  • Remove the printer entry.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Add the printer again using Add a printer or scanner.
  • Ensure it’s detected via Ethernet and not duplicated.

Update firmware

Install full feature driver (if available)

  • Visit the HP support page for your printer model and install the full software package:
HP Printers - Software and Driver Downloads
  • This includes the scan driver and utilities that may be missing after a Windows upgrade.

Test scanning from Windows

  • Go to Settings → Devices → Printers & scanners → [Your printer] → Manage → Scanner.
  • Try scanning a document directly from here.
  • If successful, the issue may be with the HP App or third‑party software.

Reinstall HP App

  • Uninstall the HP App from your computer.
  • Download the latest version from:
    HP App – Official Download
  • Re‑add the printer and test scanning again.

By refreshing Windows scanning services, reinstalling the printer and HP App, and updating firmware, you should see scanning restored. Since printing works and the connection is stable, the issue is likely software-related and can be resolved with these steps.
