Welcome to the HP English Community --

A precise answer is impossible without at least knowing the printer model.

Even better, you -- and whomever you ask for help -- needs to know the application / software you have been using when the task worked as expected.

Hidden in that "need to know comment" is the question about which Operating System / version you are using.

For example:

  • Doing anything using ChromeOS is vastly different from completing the same task on any other OS.  Best option - Ask Google -- it's their OS and they have rules about how tasks are structured.
  • Using HP Smart (Windows or Mobile) is very different from using the Windows full driver software HP Scan.
  • Setting up SMTP / Digital Send "Scan to Network Folder" using the Embedded Web Server (EWS) is different from pretty much everything else.

The location of the network folder is important, too.

For example, if the Scan to Network Drive instructions were (previously) set up to use the IP address of the destination (computer or system where you want to save the scanned content)

AND

Because you changed the router / modem, the IP address of that destination (folder) is now different,

Then

  • You need to update the IP address for the destination in whatever app / software you are using
  • Recheck that the permissions on the Destination folder are still Shared AND have Read / Write permissions open for everyone.
  • Probably want to reboot (restart) the printer, the computer, and maybe that new router, too.

One of the better resources to start looking for help might be the user manual for your printer.

Open

 Product Home - Printers

Enter the device type and model name of your HP product

Open Category "Setup & User Guides"

Look for, open, and read the manual - start in the Table of contents to find Scan topics

I will tell you what I can .. The printer is a HP laser jet pro MFP M130FW . I am running Microsoft windows 11

All was working just fine until they put in my new modem. I could print , I can scan to my network folders .

What I would do was on the printer window touch scan, then scan to network folder, pick what folder i wanted it to go to , and scan. It went right to the folder on my computer .

When the new modem was put it my printer would not print or scan so on the printer window I went to settings, then to network setup, then wireless menu , then wireless set up wizard. When done it told me I was set up to the network.

Checked the IP address on the printer , was the same as what I could find to the computer.

ok great.. even checked the settings on all the network folders that nothing changed , all looked fine .

Tried to scan to a network folder using the screen on the printer . A message came up on the printer screen saying , cannot find the remote server. check server name or IP address to connect. Check that the remote computer is on .

Well far as I know the IP address is ok on the printer, Do not under what it meant on find remote server, or how to check the server name .

Now I could print , could not understand why I could not scan to the network folders.

next I set up a wired connection from printer to the computer. I needed to use the computer program on the computer to scan to network folder , it worked that way but not wireless. If something was wroth on the set up of the network folders it would not do this so all have to be ok there . Or al read / write permissions are open to all .

I can do some things computer wise but have a limited understanding on how to do most . I hope someone can help me , I really fell it has to be connected to the new modem.. I even called my server and told them my problem , well they will do nothing to help .

Yes, hopefully someone can help --

Perhaps another Expert or Agent will jump in to assist.

No, I cannot help using a USB connection type.

I don't have a LaserJet printer -- I do have some notes on the subject and will share those with you.

OK -

Another try --

Using Wireless connection --

IP address assigned as a manual / static IP address on both printer and router -

If using, VPN is switched OFF

Connection checklists - checked and passed

If not done

Restart everything (computer, printer, router)

If the destination is on a NAS,

On that NAS - recheck the folder / destination, login, Group Assignment is (still) Everyone, and read / write access is open.

AND

Review the folder on the computer for login / password / accessibility (permissions)

Next,

Review the "Wizard" setup steps.

Suggestion:

At least while testing, consider NOT using the mentioned PIN that restricts use of the scan operation (Page 80).

What?

You likely do not need a PIN on your own personal printer in your own home or home office.

PINs are useful if you do not trust the environment (other people using your printer).

Next,

Try / Consider

The printer supports two Digital Send operations -

Digital Sending Standard FeaturesScan to email; Scan to network folder

Both of these operations can be set up using your browser and the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to create the necessary environment.  NOTE:  If you cannot bypass the browser security to open your printer's local IP address URL, use a dfferent browser.  What?  Browsers do not like local networks -- some browsers allow you to bypass "at you own risk", others might simply refuse having decided the browser knows better than you (the operator).

The printer supports using the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to create a Profile for Scan to Network

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Scan > Scan to Network Folder > Network Folder Setup

Page 81

The advantage of using EWS is that all the necessary settings are available without the need to depend on a "Wizard" to create the Profile that directs the operation.

Suggestion - EWS - Profile - Destination computer / NAS / Cloud Account

  • Consider using the IP address for the destination location as opposed to using a system / server name.

Setting Up "Scan to Network Folder" on HP LaserJet Pro MFP M130fw

The Scan to Network Folder feature allows you to scan a document directly to a network folder. Here is a detailed guide to set up this feature using two different methods: Using the Scan to Network Folder Wizard (Windows) and Using the HP Embedded Web Server (EWS).

Method 1: Use the Scan to Network Folder Wizard (Windows)

  1. Open the HP Printer Assistant:

    • Windows 11 : From the Start menu, click All Apps, click the HP folder, and then select the printer name.
    • Windows 10 : From the Start menu, click the HP folder, and then select the printer name.
    • Windows 8.1 : Click the down arrow in the lower left corner of the Start screen, and then select the printer name.
    • Windows 8 : Right-click an empty area on the Start screen, click All Apps on the app bar, and then select the printer name.
    • Windows 7 : From the computer desktop, click Start, select All Programs, click HP, click the folder for the printer, and then select the printer name.
  2. Select Scan to Network Folder Wizard:

    • In the HP Printer Assistant, select Scan, and then select Scan to Network Folder Wizard.
  3. Network Folder Profiles Dialog:

    • Click the New button to open the Scan to Network Folder Setup dialog.
    • Enter the folder name in the Display Name field. This is the name that will display on the printer control panel.
    • Complete the Destination Folder field by manually entering the file path, browsing to the folder location, or creating a shared folder.
  4. Secure the Destination Folder:

    • To require a PIN for sending a scan to the network folder, enter a 4-digit PIN in the Security PIN field, and re-enter the PIN to confirm. HP recommends creating a PIN for security purposes.
  5. Authenticate and Configure:

    • Enter your Windows User Name and Password.
    • Select default scan settings (document type, color preference, paper size, resolution, filename prefix).
    • Save and test the configuration.

Method 2: Use the HP Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  1. Access the HP Embedded Web Server (EWS):

    • Obtain the printer's IP address from the Home screen on the printer control panel by touching the Wireless icon or the Ethernet icon.
    • On your computer, open a web browser and enter the printer's IP address in the browser's address bar. Press Enter.
  2. Configure the Scan to Network Folder:

    • On the EWS Home page, click the Settings tab.
    • Click Control Panel Customization on the left pane and click Quick Sets.
    • Click the Add icon to add a Quick Set profile for a network folder.
    • Enter a name for the Quick Set, the network path for the folder, authentication credentials, and security PIN.
    • Select default scan settings and save the configuration.

Final Steps

  1. Place the Original Document:

    • Place the original document on the scanner glass or into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF). Note that the ADF mechanism can damage photos, so use the scanner glass or HP Smart app for scanning photos.
  2. Scan and Send:

    • On the printer control panel, touch Scan, then touch Scan to Network Folder.
    • Select the folder to receive the scan and adjust settings if necessary.
    • Touch the Send icon to send the scan.
