Operating System: macOS 12.0 Monterey

I need to scan a document from my printer to my Mac, and can't understand the directions.  I am instructed to install HP Smart, but I don't know how.  When I try to install HP Smart, it seems I keep getting instructions that go in circles.  The virtual assistant was no help, really.  

Is there a way to scan without setting up HP Smart app, or can someone explain please help me set it up?

Thank you for your response.

 

My printer is an HPOfficeJet Pro, 8020 series.  It is connected using Wifi Direct.

I live in a rural area outside of Fairbanks and use my iphone as an internet hotspot.

You may only print with a Wi-Fi Direct connection, scanning is not expected to work in such a connection type.

 

You may use Webscan to perform basic scanning, please see  Scan with an HP printer (Chromebooks) >> Scan with Webscan (Chromebooks) below:
