Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
Try / Consider...
First, ensure the printer is scanning "as best it can do" --
Known solutions, presented in the order to be considered / completed:
Resolve scan quality problems on HP printers
Next,
Remaining issues might be corrected after the scan is completed but before the content is saved.
Example - HP Smart - Windows - Scan Document > Edit
HP_Smart_Win_Scan_Edit_Document_Set_1
After Edit is selected, the options are similar for document / image scan editing.
Try edit option "Adjust" or perhaps "Filters"
Example - HP Smart - Windows - Scan > Edit > Edit Options
HP_Smart_W10_Scan_Edit_Image_Set_11
